 The ‘Tamang Heritage Trail’ is exciting virgin trekking trail on the unexplored region of Langtang National Park with rich tamang culture.The inhabitants of this trekking region are Tamang who are believed to be Tibetan origine. The highlight of the trek is an ancient Tibetan life style combining with picturesque scenery  and healing bath in natural hot springs.

Tamange Heritage Trail Region has close connection with the Tibet and this same trail was used by the traders from Tibet bartering  in Salt and mountain goats for meat with foodstuff from the south. The Tamang Heritage trail begins from the easy bus drive to Syabru besi. During the trek you will be passing through Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Langtang valley and finally Kyanjing Gompa.Thisjourney to Tamang Heritage trail offers the close observation of Tamang rituals, Tibetan culture, religious festivals, hospitality of highland people on the crystal clear Himalayan shadow.

 

 

 Itinerary

 Our Tamang Heritage Trail  14 days trek itinenary is designed by the team of experts working in himalayan adventure field for more than decade. 


Day 1 : Pick up in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel

Welcome greeting at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu by the representative from Wild Stone Adventure. You will then transfer to the Hotel for refreshment where you will be served with welcome drinks. Depending on your interest and condition you can either rest, hang around the street or visit our office for rest of the day.     Included : Welcome Drinks

 

Day 2 : Kathmandu sightseeing, trek briefing and preparation

We will start guided tour to several major historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu Valley. The tour cover UNESCO World Heritage Sites including historical Durbar Square, Sacred Hindu Temple (Pahupati Nath) ,popular monkey Temple (Swayambhunath) and Buddhists Shrine (Buddha Nath). After completion of city tour you will meet with guide and other helping staffs, you will be explained with nature of your trek and your trekking gears will be checked.      Included : Breakfast

 

Day 3 : Drive Kathmandu – Syabru Besi (1450m)

We start early drive to Syabru Besi, the starting point of the Tamang Heritage trail trek. We head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi. Behind Trisuli Bazaar the road is tricky because of the grubby road. During the travel you will pass through many small villages on the way will be fascinating you with snippets.

Day 4 : Trek Syabru Besi – Gatlang (2238m)

Today we start our trek. We trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2238m.) via Goljung. While trekking we can experience some of the Tamang culture. You can enjoy the scenery of the Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung among others. Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is a Tamang settlement is marked with the traditional stone houses. One can visit a Tamang monastery and beautiful Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang.The cultural show at Goljung and Gatlang makes your trekking an unforgettable one.

Day 5 : Trek Gatlang- Tatopani (2607m)

Today's trek begin with the descent to Thangbuchet.On the way you enjoy the sightseeing of the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. At Tatopani which naturally signifies 'hot water', you can take a hot bath in natural hot springs with bathing areas in the lap of the mountains. It is believed that taking a dip into this spring will heal you from your aches and pains.Take a dip into the natural hot water to relax your tired muscles. This day's trekking provides you an opportunity to experience the Tamang culture.

Day 6 : Trek Tatopani -Thuman (2338m)

Today, we trek from Tatopani to Thuman via Nagthali and Bimthang. The trail passes through the dense alpine forest, en route we may encounter animals like monkeys and deer.From Nagthali, we can distinctly experienced the the panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Hima and Sanjen ranges. Nagthali used to be a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests. Another cultural village, Thuman, is popular for its Shamanic performances and beautiful view of Langtang. Beautiful views of the mountains can be seen from every house in Thuman.

Day 7 : Trek Thuman – Briddim (2229m)

Today, we trek from Thuman to Briddim. While trekking  you can visit nearby historical Rasuwagadi. The fort here is a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibetan relations that have existed for many centuries.Today's trekking grants you an opportunity to observe Tibeto Burman Tamang culture in the villages on the way. Briddim is a Tibetan Buddhist village on the old trade route to Tibet. We can enjoy a cultural show performed by community members. Most of the houses are made up of stone and have roofs of split shake.

Day 8 : Trek Briddim – Lama Hotel (2480m)

Today, we trek from Briddim to Lama Hotel. We walk through Briddim village while observing the local lifestyle and culture and interacting with the locals. The trail descends to the Ghopche Khola. Then we ascend to Lama Hotel via Rimche. Lama Hotel is on the banks of Langtang River and surrounded by lush forests and mountains.

 Day 9 : Trek Lama Hotel – Langtang Valley (3430m)

After breakfast we will continue our trek to Langtang village via Ghore Tabela. We can experience the marvelous views of Langtang Lirung. Pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them.The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months.

Day 10 : Trek Langtang – Kyanjing Gompa(3837m)

The trail climbs gradually passing through the tiny village, yak pastures, stone-built houses, Chorten and passed a huge mani along a gentle path of a hill. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyanjin. Today is short hike, allowing time to your body to acclimatize and explore the surrounding.It is a dramatic setting, with snow covered peaks surrounding us in all directions. At this point, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Larpa , Langtang Ri , Langtang Lirung and several other peaks.You can explore the monastery and the cheese factory.

Day 11 : Trek Kyanjing Gompa – Lama Hotel (2480m)

From Kyanjin you retrace our route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.We can enjoy the downhill for the fantastic views of mountain what we have missed on the way up.

Day 12 : Trek Lama Hotel– Syabru Besi (1450m)

The upper part of the trail is more beautiful for the panoramic view of mountains and green hill views. This path is broader and remains sunny through the different Shepra and Tamang villages. The first half of the trail is gradually down and then the trail does a steep descent to Syabru Besi The main inhabitants belong to the Tamang community who have adopted Tibetan lifestyle

Day 13 : Drive Syabru Besi - Kathmandu

After breakfast, we start our drive to Kathmandu. While on drive we can enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Kathmandu. The first part of the drive to Trishuli Bazaar is along a gravel and bumpy road. We then access a well paved road to Kathmandu.

Day 14 : Farewell

Your Tamang Heritage Trail 14 days has come to an end. Wild Stone Adventure representative will transfer you to International airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight.    Included:Breakfast

Arrival

Upon your arrive at Tribhuban International Airport (TIA), Wild Stone Adventures' representative will greet you and transport you to your Hotel. The rest of the day depends on your interest and condition, you can either take a rest or visit our office.The next day you will be formally introduced to your Guide, brief about the trek and enjoy sightseeing tour of the city's most influential cultural and historical landmarks.

 

Accommodation

Deluxe accommodation in Kathmandu on twin sharing basis with private facilities which are of Western style.

Whilst trekking accommodation is in lodges and teahouses and is of a basic standard. Rooms may be twin or multi share with basic shared toilet facilities. Hot showers and Laundry facilities are available in some places for a small charge. 

 

Transportation

Wild Stone Adventure use high quality private transportation to  get in and off the trekking put in point and put out point.On longer routes, we use private or tourist buses, which provide a slightly higher degree of comfort and safety.For air transportation Wild Stone uses modern, comfortable and most - reliable airline operator.In trekking region, transportation mean is hiking and in some cases Yaks / horses / mules / donkeys are used for baggage carriage. In this trekking route, hiking is the major mean of transportation while your baggage will be carried by porters and/or animals.

 

Meals

We provide quality food in sufficient quantities during your trip period.Tamang Heritage Trail Trek cost include breakfast in Kathmandu and three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) from guesthouses menu while on trek. Your guide will help with menu selection and ensure that you get the best value meals possible. Although the food is usually plentiful and delicious, you should be aware that the menu is not normally extensive due to the extreme locations. Most teahouses offer a variety of rice and noodle dishes, as well as soup and seasonal vegetables. A variety of cereals, bread and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast. There will also be plenty of snacks available such as biscuits, chocolate and soft drinks and in some areas you will find fresh fruit in season. You can buy bottled mineral water from local lodges and shops en route or you can also ask your guide to fill your water bottle with boiled water and treat with water purification pills.

 

Trekking Group

For Tamang Heritage Trail, there will be one leader (5 trekkers:1 leader)and the required number of sherpa porter(2 trekkers:1 porter).As you will be travelling in the group you will be exposed to all the pleasure of travelling in group. We can runTamang Heritage Trail trek for any group size but generally we have maximum of ten people, we we found this to be best group size for the optimal success.

 

Group Leader and Support Staffs

All our trips are accompanied out by one of  our local group Leaders. The aim of the group leader is make your Tamang Heritage Trail Trek  successsful, enjoyable, memorable  and hassle free. Our leader will provide informationa on the culture, geography, ecosystem, flora and fauna of the place your are travelling. They will also offer suggestions for the optional activities and thing to do, recommend great  places and introduce you to the local people. Our leader will also assist you to learn the local language.

All our outdoor guides are licensed from the Government of Nepal. Beside the license  they have numbers of certificates including Wilderness First Aid, certificate from Kathmandu Education Projects, certificate from Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management, and Eco friendly guiding certificates.

 

Trip Grade 
Our Tamang Heritage Trail 14 days is a moderate trek suitable for passionate hiker. Walking in the higher altitude with a day pack is physically demanding than in a lower elevation, however if you are physically fit, self confidence and have stronger determination, you can accomplish this trek successfully.

 

Physical Preparation

For the Tamang Heritage Trail Trek the general rule is you  need to be very fit and the more preparation you have done for it, the more you will enjoy it. You will be walking at very high altitudes with your day pack, with the possibility of extreme variations in temperature. We recommend you to undertake regular aerobic exercise in the weeks before you travel, particularly if you are not in the habit of regular exercise. Walking, jogging, swimming or riding a bike are all good ways to boost your fitness, which will allow you to enjoy the trip to its fullest.

 

Best Season
Autumn (September - December) and Spring (March-May) are the best seasons for the Tamang Heritage TrailTrekking. The weather is excellent and offers tantalizing mountain views, but the nights are cold and can fall to freezing in higher elevations. Winter (Dec - Feb) is also good for Tamang Heritage TrailTrek, only issue is cold and might be problem due to snow. Monsoon (June - August) can be the perfect time for botanist and photo enthusiastic to capture the beauty of flowers and lush vegetation in higher valleys. The trekking routes are crowded during spring and autumn but during monsoon and winter the routes are not packed and you could enjoy the best of nature.

 

Weather and Climate
The Himalaya makes its own weather, which varies significantly over a few kilometers. There can be sudden storms and high winds and usually clouds in the afternoon. Tamang Heritage Trailis likely to have a wide range of temperatures depending on the altitude and the time of day. In the mountains up to 3,500m the nights will be cold, normally around 5 degree C, and during the day temperatures sometimes rise to 25 degree C.
 

Acclimatization
We have decade long of experience in operating at high-altitude. Our Tamang Heritage Trail 14 days gradually ascent at the higher altitude with the shorter walking hours with the time to acclimatize in the afternoon. Our every Langtang trek package is sensibly planned with the acclimatization days to prepare your body adapt the less air environment at higher altitude. 

 

Currency Exchange

The official currency of Nepal is Nepalese Rupee (NRs)

It is best to bring a mixture of cash and travelers checks in major currencies - USD, CAD, EUR, AUD - and ensure you have a mixture of large and small denominations. Money may easily be exchanged at Kathmandu airport on arrival and banks and licensed moneychangers in cities. Credit card cash advances and ATM withdrawals are in NPR only.

Before departing on your trek, make sure you have enough Nepalese currency in small denominations as change is hard to find in the villages ( 100 rupee are easy to trade )

 

Extra Pocket Money

While trekking with Wild Stone Adventure, all meals  are included in your trip cost. You will need very little local currency  for meals in Kathmandu and extra snacks, soft drinks or souvenirs along the trail.

Extra money dependa upon your spending habit. Please consider your own spending habits when you count for extra pocket money.

 

Emergency Fund

Please also make sure you have access to at least an additional USD $200 as an emergency fund, to be used when circumstances beyond our control ( natural disaster, extreme weather, nepal strikes) require a change to our planned route. This is a rare occurrence!

 

Travel Insurence
Adequate and valid travel insurance is compulsory for all travelers. Your travel insurance must cover accidents, injury, illness and death medical expenses, including any related to pre-existing medical conditions, emergency repatriation (including helicopter rescue and air ambulance where applicable) and personal liability.

 

Etiquette

When visiting and entering temples and Nepalis house you must remove your shoes.  In some temples, it is forbidden to wear any leather goods. Other temples, such as those in Pashupatinath, do not allow foreigner besides hindu  to enter. These are normally marked with a sign in English, and we urge you to respect such practices.

Always ask permission before taking photos inside any temples, and before photographing any local people. When permission is granted, always be sensitive when photographing people, and non-intrusive when shooting inside temples when prayers are in progress. Generally, photography is allowed outside Buddhist and Hindu temples and at religious ceremonies and festivals.

 

You are guest in Nepal and it is appriciated if you behave like Nepali (Local):

  • Dress Respectfully (no short shorts or revealing clothes)
  • Do not show affection in public.
  • Do not buy antiques.
  • Do not point your feet (unclean) to people and point with full hand not with one finger.
  • Do not step over persons.
  • Do not touch or step over offerings (red powder, flowers/rice)
  • Do not use your left hand (dirty)
  • Receive and give with two hands.
  • Ask permission before taking people's photographs.
  • Discourage begging, pay fair price
  • Take off your shoes before entering a monastery or Nepali house.
  • Go clockwise roung the stupas, temples etc
  • Avoid touching monks / lamas.

  

Clothing 
Dress respectfully with an awareness of local standards. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool during hiking. In many rural areas women will need to wear modest clothing even to swim. Singlets, tank tops and topless sun bathing are all unaccepted. While visiting temples,monasteriesand other religious sites men need to wear long trousers and women a long skirt.

 

Laundry

Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels and tea houses for a small charge. There will be times when you may want to or have to do your own laundry so we suggest you bring biodegradable soap.
