Baden powell scout peak climbing


Baden Powell Scout Peak peak is situated north from Kathmandu in Langtang Himalaya range near border of Tibet. This mushroom shaped  peak (5718m) summit offers magnificent panoramic views of majestic snow-capped mountains of the langtang region including Langtang II, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and Shishapangma in Tibet.

 Formally known as as Urkema Peak,  the government of Nepal renamed Urkema Peak to Baden Powell Scout Peak, to commemorate100 years of Scouting in honor of British soldier Robert Baden Powell.

 The Baden Powell Scout Peak Expedition commences from the Kathmandu. The beautiful landscape at the trekking part adds another reason for choosing a climb to this spectacular Baden Powell Scout Peak Peak.  During the trekking days the trail passes through the off the beaten track away the main touristic place. The trekking will give you  experience the natural grandeur as well as the cultural magnificence  of  Nepal. The alpine plants, lush forests, colorful flowers of lush forests, culturally rich local people, snow covered mountains would surely mesmerize you with their serene beauty. The climb for Baden Powell Scout  Peak or Urkema Peak starts further from Kyanjin Gompa after reaching the Baden Powell Scout Peak Base Camp. After summiting the peak, we return the same route.


Day 1 : Pick up in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel

Welcome greeting at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu by the representative from Wild Stone Adventure. You will then transfer to the Hotel for refreshment where you will be served with welcome drinks. Depending on your interest and condition you can either rest, hang around the street or visit our office for rest of the day. Included : Welcome Drinks

Day 2 : Kathmandu sightseeing, climbing briefing and preparation

We will start guided tour to several major historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu Valley. The tour cover UNESCO World Heritage Sites including historical Durbar Square, Sacred Hindu Temple (Pahupati Nath) ,popular monkey Temple (Swayambhunath) and Buddhists Shrine (Buddha Nath). After completion of city tour you will meet with guide and other helping staffs, you will be explained with nature of your trek and your trekking gears will be checked.     Included : Breakfast


Day 3 : Drive Kathmandu – Kakani

In the morning we take a drive along the beautiful highway of Trishuli Road to Kakani. A Nepal Scouts International Training Centre  and camp is located here.It spreads over 359 ropanis. This land was donated in 1998 to Nepal Scouts by the then King of Nepal. Over here scouts are given training on BTC, PTC, Advance and CALT. In addition the venue is used for various events and programs.

Day 4 : Drive Kakani – Syabrubensi (1450m)

We start early drive to Syabru Besi, the starting point of the Baden Powell Scout Peak Expedition. We head further north driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi. Behind Trisuli Bazaar the road is tricky because of the grubby road. During the travel you will pass through many small villages on the way will be fascinating you with snippets.

Day 5 : Trek Syabru Besi – Lama Hotel (2480m)

Today we start our trek by crossing through the suspension bridge and heading precipitously along a stream. The River we are following is mostly the Langtang River. We can enjoy the walk going through oak, rhododendron and bamboo forests. There is also a variety of wildlife in these forests: yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas and Himalayan black bears.

Day 6 : Trek Lama Hotel – Langtang valley (3541m)

After breakfast we will continue our trek to Langtang village via Ghore Tabela. At Ghora Tabela the trail emerges from the forest. You can catch a glimpse of white monkeys and local birds. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months.

Day 7 : Trek Langtang village – Kyanjin Gompa (3900m)

The trail climbs gradually passing through the tiny village, yak pastures, stone-built houses, Chorten and passed a huge mani along a gentle path of a hill. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyanjin. Today is short hike, allowing time to your body to acclimatize and explore the surrounding.It is a dramatic setting, with snow covered peaks surrounding us in all directions. At this point, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Larpa , Langtang Ri , Langtang Lirung and several other peaks.This place is also famous for cheese and curd.

Day 8 : Acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa

Today we explore the Kyanjin Gompa. After the breakfast we hike to Tserko Ri (5000m) for for a breath-taking panorama of the langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji and the foot of the huge lirung Glacier. Back to guest house for Lunch having short rest and walk around the Kyanjing valley. We can visit the monastery and the cheese factory .

Day 9 : Trek Kyanjin Gompa – Base Camp

The path from Kyanjin Gompa is fairly uphill climb. We continue pleasant walking through a rhododendron forest towards the south.On the open good ground we set our camp.

Day 10 : Summit Baden Powell Scout Peak

We start our summit attempt for Baden Powell Scout Peak around the midnight.In the begining, we cross the rocky field and climb up about 50 metres until we get to a rocky slab on the right. From there we ascend the snowy 30 degree slope that leads to a glacier, which soon becomes a large glacial bowl. We zigzag your way up, keeping to the right, aiming towards the rock face to the west. From here, the slope gets a little bit steeper about 35-40 degrees. At least 100metres of ropes are fixed. We stay on the ice and climb around the rocks until we get to the top of the ridge at about 5,500m. Then there is another steep portion .We fix another 10 metres of rope. A couple of crevasses are on the way up before we climb 100 m straight to the top. We need another fix rope to reach the summit. The ridge at the top is very narrow and has very little space. From the top we have summit we have stunning close-up views of Shishapangma, Naya Kanga , Ganesh Himal and even Kathmandu valley on a clear day.

Day 11 : Trek Base Camp - Kyanjin Gompa

After breakfast, we  retrace our route to the Kyanjin Gompa. The fascinationg downhill trail provides  a magnificent view of Langtang Lirung, Langshisa Ri and Shisapangma in Tibet.

Day 12 : Trek Kyanjin Gompa – Lama Hotel (2480m)

From Kyanjin you retrace our route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.We can enjoy the downhill for the fantastic views of mountain what we have missed on the way up.

Day 13 : Trek Lama Hotel – Syabru Besi (1462m)

The upper part of the trail is more beautiful for the panoramic view of mountains and green hill views. This path is broader and remains sunny through the different Shepra and Tamang villages. The first half of the trail is gradually down and then the trail does a steep descent to Syabru Besi The main inhabitants belong to the Tamang community who have adopted Tibetan lifestyle

Day 14 : Drive Syabru Besi – Kathmandu

After breakfast, we start our drive to Kathmandu. While on drive we can enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Kathmandu. The first part of the drive to Trishuli Bazaar is along a gravel and bumpy road. We then access a well paved road to Kathmandu.

Day 15 : Farewell

Your Baden Powell Scout Peak Climbing has come to an end. Wild Stone Adventure representative will transfer you to International airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. Included:Breakfast
